The panoramic Kaunertal Glacier Road has been called one of the "most beautiful roads in the Alps"
26 km, 29 hairpin bends, 1,500 m change in elevation: these figures just give a glimpse of what you'll experience on Tyrol's highway to the permanent ice. From the valley village of Feichten, there are 29 turns to take you to the edge of the glacier at Weißseeferner. Numerous viewpoints and historic buildings provide opportunities to stop along the way. Relax on the sun terrace of the glacier restaurant or walk into a real glacial crevasse? One of the most beautiful high mountain roads in the Alps makes it possible!

A popular destination in the Kaunertal past and present
On the Kaunertal Glacier Road, you can walk in the footsteps of bygone days. Already in the Middle Ages, this was a pilgrimage route led from the Tyrolean pilgrimage town of Kaltenbrunn to Melagg in South Tyrol. Today's road largely follows this same route. To this day, an ancient route directly from the scenic road to the Weißseejoch (2,960 meters) continues to be used as a hiking trail.
Whether by bus, motorcycle, car, or bike, some 150,000 visitors come to Tyrol's Kaunertal every summer. Many come to experience one of Austria's most beautiful high alpine roads.
